◆ First Illuminated Modular Terrain Tile System ◆
Hex. Square. Endless Possibilities.
25 individually addressable RGBW LEDs per tile. Magnetic snap connectors. Swappable art layers. No wires, no setup — just place the tile and it glows.
The Glowrune System
Two tile formats. One connector standard. One app. Mix hex and square in the same build — power chains across both types seamlessly.
19 hex terrain tiles. Compatible with hex strategy games, hex board games & overworld RPG maps.
15 square terrain tiles. Built for tabletop dungeon RPGs & dungeon crawl systems.
Core Innovation
Every Glowrune tile contains 25 RGBW LEDs using the SK6812 protocol. Spatially distributed across the tile face for per-zone animation — lava flows from one edge while shadows pool in the corners.
Program pulsing lava fields, creeping dungeon shadows, or arcane rune patterns. The dedicated white channel (RGBW, not just RGB) produces true, clean white — critical for moonlit grasslands, snowy mountain tiles, and stone dungeon corridors.
The Glowrune iOS app lets you target individual LED zones within each tile. Forest fire sweeping south from one edge. Magical portal emanating from the center. Torch-flicker scripted to your room description. Your dungeon, your ambience.
Connect over Bluetooth. Choose from animation presets — forest flicker, lava pulse, ice shimmer, torch ambience — or dial in custom colors for any zone on any tile. iOS available at launch; Android in development.
Patented Connector System
Glowrune's pogo-pin magnetic connectors align tiles mechanically and complete the electrical circuit simultaneously. Place a tile next to another tile — it connects. Power distributes automatically across every tile in the grid.
N52 neodymium magnets at each connector point pull tiles into perfect alignment. No squinting at angles. No pushing pieces together. The tiles snap and stay — through dice rolls, dragon attacks, and epic table-flip moments.
12V DC enters through a single controller tile via a standard adapter. Every connected tile powers up automatically through the magnetic connector chain. No individual power connections. No cable management. One plug, entire map illuminated.
Hex tiles connect to adjacent hex tiles across all 6 edges. Square tiles connect across all 4 sides. Both formats share the same connector standard — bridge them together for hybrid terrain builds. Build a 19-hex overworld or a 15-tile dungeon in under 3 minutes.
One Hardware Platform
The tile hardware never changes. The world does. UV-printed opal acrylic art layers snap magnetically onto the tile face and swap in seconds. Explore our art packs for every terrain theme.
Each art layer is a rigid acrylic panel with photographic-quality UV woodcut printing that backlit beautifully by the 25 LEDs beneath. The opal diffuser distributes light evenly across the entire tile face — no hot spots, no dark edges.
Hex Classics (wheat, ore, pasture, brick, forest, desert), Dungeon Stone, Arctic Tundra, Lava Cavern, Enchanted Forest, Ocean Depths — and more art packs releasing post-launch. Same hardware tile, infinite worlds.
Art layers snap onto the tile at 3 alternating corner points via small neodymium magnets. Pull one off, place another — no tools, no disassembly, no downtime mid-session. Change the world between encounters without breaking immersion.
Works With What You Own
Glowrune tiles use standard hex and square dimensions that align with major tabletop game systems — drop them into your existing setup and they just work.
Hex tiles use standard hex game tile dimensions. Square tiles use 25mm miniature scale for tabletop RPGs and miniature wargames. See full compatibility comparison →
